WORK HISTORY

Self-Employed Construction Worker for Hire          2011 - Present

I do various construction projects for General Contractors. Most recently I was contracted to work for Hive Construction/Hive Homes. I have been their superintendent for their jobs since April 2012. As superintendent it was my job to oversee all the trades that were working on each project. One of the biggest tasks as a superintendent was creating a schedule and keeping everyone to those dates. I also put together the permit applications for submission. Having a general knowledge of construction and the various trades makes it easier for me to do the work or manage those who are on the job. I do some of the physical work as well which fluctuates by the job. My only limitation to what I cannot physically do well is concrete flatwork. I am comfortable doing all other construction related work.

PROJECT MANAGER, Disaster Professionals             2011 to 2012

I cleaned up flood, fire, mold, or natural disasters. If possible, I restored things to their original condition from before the disaster. It was my job to schedule employees and sub-contractors to put things back in an orderly fashion and in an appropriate amount of time so as not to displace clients longer than necessary. My job was also to perform some of the reconstruction of the damaged areas including: Framing, Plumbing, Electrical, Insulation, Drywall, Roofing, Siding, Trim work, and Flooring.  I managed a crew of at least 2 and as many as 6 on any given job. I also took time to market the company to new customers for future work.

SERVICE SALES REPRESENTATIVE, Cintas Corporation           2008 – 2011

Picked up and delivered various products to a set base of customers. These products were things such as; uniforms, floor mats, towels, and restroom supplies. Saw these customers weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. Established strong working relationships with each customer as well as provided the service for them. I used sales skills to help increase the dollar volume of service that the company provided for them already. In a short amount of time I grew my route substantially. It was because of my success as a service sales representative that I was promoted to a Sales Associate. As a sales associate, I contacted potential customers by phone and set up appointments for both myself and other Sales Representatives. I met with the potential customers and sold them the best products and services Cintas provides. To help understand more of Cintas’ products and services, I accepted a position with their First Aid and Safety division. I learned about the first aid and safety products that Cintas had to offer. I helped the Sales Representatives close their sales and install the new accounts. After only 2 months I had proven my skills and understanding of this division of the company and accepted the position of Service Sale Representative. I visited a set base of customers on a weekly, 2-week, 4-week, 6-week, or even 8-week basis. I helped these customers to maintain OSHA compliance with the onsite first aid that they provided along with other safety items and training that they needed.

OWNER, Additional Construction Company, Inc.                      2004 – 2007

As the owner and foreman I needed to translate conceptual ideas and create them into a plan. I completed monetary bid proposals to obtain job opportunities. Creating and following my schedules to meet or exceed deadlines was crucial including scheduling the time for other trades to do their work. I created and ordered material lists for each job. To make sure these projects came at or below budget, I tracked materials daily. To maintain efficiency I made regular punch lists of remaining work. I familiarized myself with basic construction principles needed to communicate ideas with customers, sub-contractors, employees, and suppliers. I taught employees about basic construction. To increase my personal knowledge in other areas I worked with my sub-contractors. My knowledge in Residential International Building Codes in both construction and electrical was helpful in designing plans and making adjustments to existing structures to ensure that every project was completed properly. I created blueprints both by hand and through Punch!Pro software. I needed to read blueprints for all aspects of construction projects. I applied for all necessary permits. By performing many of the physical aspects of the construction process, including: Framing, Electrical, Insulation, Roofing, Siding, Drywall, Trim work, Plumbing, HVAC, and Flooring I helped to save the company money.

SUPERINTENDENT, Blue Ridge Builders     2002 –2004

I used my familiarity with basic construction principles to supervise and direct all aspects of residential construction. I had to read blueprints for each phase of a construction project and applied for designated permits. I created and adhered to a schedule for each project to ensure meeting each deadline. I scheduled the delivery of materials and inspections. To avoid code infractions, I increased my knowledge of the International Building Code. I coordinated the project timing of each trade (sub-contractor). I made punch lists of remaining work to maintain efficiency. Communicating on a daily basis with sub-contractors, employees, and clients helped me to stay on schedule and meet deadlines. I was given regular goals by my supervisor and met those goals.

MISSIONARY, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints    1996 –1998

I voluntarily spent two years serving and teaching people in Bronx, NY, Bonaire, N.A., and Venezuela. I taught them various subjects such as: English and Spanish as 2nd languages, Mathematics, How to teach effectively, and Religion. I learned to read, write, and speak the languages of Spanish and Papiamento fluently. On occasions I went door to door to find more opportunities to teach. I developed the ability to read people and understand what it was they were in need of. I built relationships of trust with people to help them feel comfortable in discussing things of a personal nature. I created lasting friendships. I learned to work together as a team accomplishing goals.

FOREMAN, Perry Olsen Drywall      1995

I traveled within the states of Utah, Nevada, and Wyoming to set up large scaffolding projects. Some projects reached a height of more than 18 - 6’ frames and spanned an area 200’ x 200’. My job was to familiarize myself with OSHA regulations pertaining to scaffolding. Then use that knowledge to ensure safety and eliminate further infractions from OSHA.
